New York Advice
When I was a teenager I worked at a Burger King in Connecticut. There was an older man who’d come in, Tom Paris. He was a retiree from New York. He would come in and spend his playing scratch off. I thought he was worth listening to because he was from New York and knew a lot of stuff.
One day he said, “The worst thing that can happen to someone is to be forgotten.” He talked on about how everyone should strive to be something. It made an impact on how I judged myself.
After a few decades, I’ve decided he was wrong. The worst thing that can happen to someone is being unhappy and not at peace.
